Introducing... Pua!

This year we have some exciting new images to share with you!  While our roots are deep in vintage Japanese images, Denise has also been working on a line of local style and modern images too!  We'll be sharing those with you over the course of the year and can't wait to hear what you all think of them.

As you may (or may not) know, my sister and I were both born and raised in Hawaii.  While I still live here, my sister has since moved abroad.  There's something about being from Hawaii that makes living here so special!  Hawaii is such a melting pot of many different cultures that we all celebrate various cultural traditions even though we may not be of that ancestry.  We also have unique local cuisine that is like no other!  I think I would die if I didn't get to eat local food on a regular basis.  But most importantly, its the Aloha Spirit that is what makes us so unique and what most people remember.  The minute I tell people I'm from Hawaii, their whole demeanor changes and suddenly I'm like their long lost friend!

Our newest release captures the Aloha Spirit unlike no other...  Meet our newest image... Pua!   She is just waiting to greet you with a lei- which is very traditional here in Hawaii.  Hawaiian names are very symbolic and are normally chosen because of their meaning.  Pua in Hawaiian means flower, so I thought it would be fun to name her that since she's holding a flower lei and has a flower in her hair.  She's wearing a traditional mu`umu`u which is a long traditional hawaiian dress that is very common attire here in Hawaii.

Because Pua is dressed in Hawaiian attire, I decided to go with more earthy tones and fabrics.  I saw a video tutorial recently on Christine Sawvell's channel and thought this would be fun to make out of burlap!  Here's her tutorial here:

This project was surprisingly easy to make and only took one sheet of 12x12 burlap (or cardstock).   I just love how cool it looks and am pretty sure you can size it to whatever envelope size you want.

  3. Pua is SO cute! I totally miss my family in Hawaii and going to the park and making puka shell necklaces with my mom. I also just miss the laid back style and how everyone is just so nice. I always feel at home when I go back to visit.

  4. Pua is adorable and your burlap project is amazing. Being in the coldest part of our winter on a gray, snowy day, I'm missing the warm sunny beaches, the tradewinds and my friends I left behind in HI.

  7. Both of the stamps are great!

I don't live in HI but I wish I did. My family are definitely HI at heart because we always have so much fun visiting every summer. We love everything about HI- the local food, the music, the beautiful beaches, the people... the list goes on.

  13. Hi! Pua reminds me of an old picture of my daughter...muumuu, lei and all! Love living in Hilo. Can't imagine anywhere else I'd rather be. The people, the traffic, not like large cities.

  19. When we used to live there, we'd see our friends every weekend and we all have kids, so they r like our second family! We'd also go to our families house for dinner every Sunday! So what I love about Hawaii is "family". Also the beaches of course!!!! Hahah
