And Last But Not Least... Shimo-san

Don't laugh, but we did something a little silly with the name of this image. While searching for a good name on the internet, I decided to look up Frosty... as in Frosty the Snowman? Anyway, I believe the word "shimo" means frost, so my husband said, why not call this image "Shimo-san"... as in Mr. Frosty. I could be wrong though.. I'm sure someone will correct me along the way.
So here's the front of the card... In a minute you'll see why the focal point is a paper samurai hat....

Ta daaaaa! Here's what the card looks like when its opened. This type of card is called a pleated center pop up card. For the tutorial click here. I love this type of card as it allows you to make your images stand up when the card is opened and laid flat. I added some punched snowflakes (Martha Stewart Crafts) and made them float by adhering them to some acetate strips. Since they are strong and clear, it helps my snowflakes to float around the kids. The large doily that the sentiment is stamped on is by Papertrey Ink.

And now you see why the paper samurai hat on the front? Yes, the boy is placing this same hat on Shimo-san's head! :) Here's a closer look at the image.

Hope you enjoyed our introductory posts! We have a surprise guest designer joining us for this release so check in next week to see who it is! Before I forget, if you want to win Shimo-san, remember to post a comment on THIS POST (and follow the rest of the blog candy rules on the Setsuna introduction post) and also tell me if you've ever seen falling snow. Before this year, I never did and it was always a dream of mine to see it. I finally got my wish when we went to Japan this past March and I was estatic! I must've been the only fool taking photos in the falling snow, but I didn't mind. Coming from Hawaii I wasn't going to pass up a photo op of falling snow!

Dug up a photo from my trip... cute yah? The day it snowed we went to Tokyo Seas (2nd Disneyland park in Tokyo) and found these mini Mickey and Minnie snowmen!

  3. Shimo-san is really cute! Snowmen & snowflakes are my favorite for the holidays. I just love everything about this card! I would be thrilled to receive a card like this from someone. I will have to check out the tutorial on how to make it.
Yes, I've seen snow falling. Manyl times! Living in N. California has given me plenty of opportunities to be around snow with the Sierras nearby. Growing up, my parents took us snow skiing. Now I'm into snowboarding (well, not so much now that I have two little ones). I think everyone should see falling snow. It's so beautiful and serene and fun to play in! Hmmm...don't you guys get snow on he Big Island once in a great while? I've seen pictures of a snow-capped Mauna Kea.

  4. Wow - your samuri hat really goes with your stamp - I love it -Oh playing in the snow. --When visiting my grandchildren in Colorado one winter we made a Hawaiian Snowman - he wore a pareo for a scarf and had a coconut hat - ah such memories. Here at home after heavy rain storms,we are Mauna Kea bound for fun in the snow.

  5. Amazing card Jenny...Thanks for the tutorial. I'll give it a try.
I first seen falling snow when I was living in Missouri. The weatherman said we would have snow in the morning and sure enough it came. Only thing is that it was still 2am in Hawaii and I called my parents screaming that I see snow. LOL! Gotta be from Hawaii!!!

  6. Wow Jenny, that card is awesome!! I agree with Kris, when you make these cards I drool, ooohing and ahhing! hahaha!! The image is perfect for a snow-rai! (That's snowman + samurai) hahaha! Thanks for the link.
Being in Cali we do get snow on the mountains, but I think the first time I saw snow was when I went to Prescott, AZ with my basketball team. It was a light snow, but snow all the same. It was beautiful but too cold! I'd probably enjoy it if I was snuggled in a cabin with a roaring fire in the fireplace. LOL! Have a great weekend! :)

We get snow every winter and it is really beautiful, and would love it totally if it just wouldn't fall on the roads. ;)

  8. Your cards are always awesome! I think I'm in the minority when I can say that I'm from Boston, so I grew up with falling snow :) I went to college in the mountains of New Hampshire and I can remember how my freshman year, a student from California who had never seen snow, rushed out and was surprised the snow was COLD! Haha After 6 years in Hawaii, I really do miss the snow.

  10. Snow? No, I've never seen snow. Not even on the mountain. Only when someone brought snow down in the back of their truck and then attacked me with it. LoL. I'm hoping to someday be able to see falling snow, though. I wanna build a snowman out of "real" snow. XD

  15. Super cute! I wonder if the snowman is about to come to life? :)

I have seen falling snow! It's incredibly exciting.....UNTIL the roads aren't passable, the electricity goes out, and it gets dirty and brown. LOL. :) We don't usually get snow where I live, but last winter we got 5 inches. The city was shut down for a week!
