Kung Hee Fat Choy!

Happy New Year! Or at least start getting ready for the new year! Today marks the beginning of our introductory posts for our Release #4 images! Yay! First up are the Firecracker kids. I really really wanted an image with firecrackers and sis really delivered with this stamp. In Hawaii, New Years is a big thing, no matter what race you are and fireworks are a BIG part of it. But now that the laws have changed, I'm sure the next generation won't know all the fun we had growing up! Poor things yah?

Since these images are more Chinese, I went with my favorite red, black and gold color scheme. This washi paper reminded me of firecracker paper, so I thought it matched well. Also used one of my new favorite Spellbinder dies to mount the kids on. This is actually a cut down version of the stamp. I decided to cut out the kids and firecracker string, but the stamp image also contains bursting fire crackers and paper in between the kids. Since I had cut out the paper and sparks, I decided to make my own sparks using gold glitter stickles. Oh yah, and can you tell I tried out Amy's Superhero hair technique? Thanks Mama for the blue Copic!

And do you likey the inside of the card? By special request, Island Scrapbooking now makes these "Kung Hee Fat Choy" sentiments. They work really well with these new year's images, don't 'cha think?

Oh yes, can't forget the other stuff I used... embossing folder is by Cuttlebug- came in a set with other asian embossing folders. And the die used behind the words is by Papertrey ink.

  6. The new set for the New Year are just too adorable. My fav New Year memory is when my grandma was alive she would make these yummy mochi balls with glaze brown sugar and another food. I really miss her cooking. And just having all my family there meant so much too her. She wouldn't even let us bring other foods she would want to do all the cooking her self and would remind us that she was cooking all day for us and how much we truely appreciate her hard work in her cooking.

  10. Hi Jenny,
This is so cute! I would love to win this Firecracker couple. And I need to get the "Kung Hee Fat Choy" sentiment.
I love that we can create a Chinese or Japanese theme to these Asian cuties. Those are also my favorite colors to use when I go with an Asian theme.
For Chinese New Years' celebrations, my Mom used to put these Chinese "candies" that she would by from China Town, in her old lacquer Chinese candy box with sectionals. Candy meaning candied coconut, chestnuts, ginger, hasu etc. She woudl also place lycee (spelling?), wrapped in red paper in the rice, flour, sugar, fruits etc. That was so they would be plentiful next year. And New Year's day we would go look for them so we could go buy other treats.
Your card reminded me that I should continue this tradition with my grand children as well. I haven't done this since my mother past 2 yrs ago.
Thanks for sharing that gorgeous card and offering this wonderful give away. Hope I win this new release.

  12. Love these images. Awesome coloring too. My fond memory of New Years is all the fire cracker smoke on Oahu. And all the strands of fire crackers on light poles at almost every household. It would be so loud that it would take a few minutes to hear again. What fun!?! TFS...

  13. You did such a great job on this card! Everything came together so perfectly. I'm glad to know Island Scrapbooking makes those dies. I wonder where I can get here on the mainland. The gold glitter stickles was a nice touch for the firecrackers.

  14. Aww, I love this stamp! I never make Christmas cards because the Holidays are just too crazy busy... But every year for the past 11 years I send out Chinese new years cards. So thank you so much for these cute images, I'm so excited!
My favorite memory is the old real chinese paper firecrackers. They just seemed louder and call me crazy but they smelled good too! haha!

It really sounds like you all had much more exciting New Year's celebrations than I ever had! We just got to stay up watching movies and playing games with the family then counting down for the ball drop in Times Square and then off to bed, you gals had way more fun!

  20. Hey Jenny ~ yet another amazing card! Thanks so much for creating this fantastic asian line of rubber stamps! Can't wait to see what the New Year brings! Like the other local gals, my fav memory has to be playing firecrackers with my family. Remember the baby camels, and then the big red checker bombs? Those were the good old days ... and OH! Who can forget all the food! Japanese style you go from house to house on New Years Day and eat something at every house you go to! Big hugs to you my friend! Hope to be blogging more!

  22. So adorable!

I think my favorite New Year's memory is just my whole family sitting down together on New Year's Day and eating breakfast together before going to church. We're normally all over the place so it's nice.
