Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!

Happy New Year! Wishing you and your family a happy and prosperous new year. To celebrate, I'll be giving away a stamp from an upcoming release! It's not necessarily the next release, but something that is planned for 2012. All you need to do is:

1. Leave a comment on THIS post by 11:59pm on 1/1/11 (i.e. Sunday night).
2. Tell me what are your New Year's traditions.
3. Become a follower on our blog (publicly) if you aren't already.

Normally, I celebrate New Year's at home in Hilo. New Year's Eve is my husband's birthday, so New Year's is a big deal for us. This is one of our New Year's traditions... Uncle Roy asks us for our xmas tree, which is normally dead by the time New Year's comes around. (But now that we buy our tress from Home Depot, they don't die as quickly!). We "trim" the tree with some fireworks, and then you can guess what happens.

Don't worry, we are very careful when we do this. This year should be very tame on Oahu... I guess I'll get the Hilo report tomorrow! Happy New Year's everyone! To the gang in Hilo... save some sushi, won ton, and ozoni for me!

  1. Happy New Year's Jenny!
I usually just get together with family and we play games and watch movies until it's time to see the big ball drop at midnight, nothing big!

  2. Happy New Year's Jenny! I usually write a special New Year's message from my family and I to our family and friends. My family and I have movie night and watch the big ball drop at midnight. As soon as it hits midnight my hubby and I say a prayer together (with our kids too if they are awake)asking for God's blessings for the next year.

  3. Happy new year!! We used to celebrate late-night pre-kids! Now that we have little ones, we usually get together with other friends with little ones and have an early dinner and celebrate new years East coast time (9pm) for us.
On new years day, we are usually at my I laws having oden. Then we celebrate Chinese New Years when it comes around.

  4. Arigato! Happy new year to you, too! No traditions here. We used to all wake up and pop a bottle at midnight, but everyone does his/her own thing now...

  6. Happy New Year! It's always different every NYE. My sister's bday is also NYE (Happy Birthday to your DH) so we usually do a big dinner at our house, but this year she didn't come home. So if there are no set plans. This year I spent with some friends and they cooked up a big Korean feast! So ono. And on NYD I always go to my friend's annual NYD party.
    Hoping 2012 is a gr8 one for ya! ;)

  7. Happy New Year, Jenny! No tradition here. Used to be the whole family get together for dinner and we watch TV or movie. We like it low key & safe. :)

  8. I don't have any major New Year's Eve/New Year's Day traditions. Usually we spend it somewhere cold though - like Boston and watch the fireworks all bundled up with frequent stops at the bars to warm up. That's my one must - I love fireworks. In fact, I totally want to adopt YOUR family tradition! Happy New Year's everyone.

  9. Happy New Year, Jenny! We always spend our NYE together with family, have our "toshi-koshi soba" for long life then go to visit a couple Shinto Shrines (omiya mairi) for purification and blessings for the coming year. Too bad no fireworks this year...we might have to start flying to Hilo for the holiday so we can satisfy our pyromania!

  10. New Years has always been "too much" of the 4 "F"s - family, food, fireworks, and fun! Recently we've added a video scrapbook - we make a dvd with the year's photos and short video clips...and "force" everyone to watch it! (It's not really all that bad as it's mostly about all of the kids.) Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to seeing all of your new releases. :)

  11. Happy New Year! This year Red won!! Had ozoni and fancy bentos from Shirokiya and spent the eve cowering from the bombardment of booms coming from someone in the neighborhood. Love our designs. Look forward to what's coming up!
