Meet Kaleo

Hope you are enjoying the previews thus far.  I'm happy to read all of your comments on the images and loved hearing what you love about Hawaii!

Today's introduction features our newest boy... Meet Kaleo!  Kaleo means "Voice" in Hawaiian, so I thought it would work nicely with this image as he looks like he is singing while playing his ukulele.  The ukulele is a very popular instrument used in a lot of local Hawaiian music.  What I really love about this image is his pose.  I can't put my finger on it but I just love how she designed him!

He is also wearing traditional local attire- aloha shirt, shorts, and slippers!!!! Bwahahaha!  If you ever came to a wedding on the big island, you would see the majority of guests come dressed in similar attire.  Only in Hawaii would you see that! :)  Part of what I love about living here.

My project today features Kaleo singing his heart out on a vintage style calendar.  I make calendars every year to sell at craft fairs and decided to feature some of the new images before they were released.  I started off with a 8 1/2 x 11" chipboard and adhered the patterned paper to it.  Then rounded the corners using my corner chomper.  The calendar itself was printed from the computer and sized down to fit to one side of the 8 1/2 x 11 base.  The 2015 title and monsterra leaves are laser cuts from Island Scrapbooking.  I then colored up Kaleo and added him using pop dots so he would stand out a bit.  I then punched holes at the top and strung ribbon burlap through it so that the recipient could mount it on the wall.

I hope you give this project a try. It really is very easy to make and makes great gifts at Christmas.. Doesn't everyone need a calendar?  Check out my video here...

Ok..now for the good stuff... If you want a chance to win Kaleo, here's all you have to do:
1) Leave a comment on THIS POST by 11:59pm HST on 2/2715; and

2)  Tell me what your favorite Hawaiian song is?  I guess I gotta go with "Friends" by Na Leo Pilimehana.  Just reminds me of good times.. or maybe it's "Good Times Together" by C&K.. I can't decide!  Too much good memories to choose from!

  1. Oh, he really is a cutie! I can imagine him walking around the streets of a coastal city, playing the ukulele and singing. And I'm sure that would get him lots of attention from girls as well. ;)

Hmmmm, I have to admit I don't really know many Hawaiian songs, but I looooove Lilo and Stitch cartoon and there's this song called "He mele no Lilo" which I *think* is Hawaiian. I really like that one.

    Hugs! xx

  2. I grew up during the Don Ho era, and was in love with him when I was young, haha. And after that it was SOS. But now I think my favorite song is the Hawaiian Over the Rainbow by IZ.

  5. Kaleo is such a cutie!!! I can totally hear him jammin' some Hawaiian songs on his ukulele. I am a HUGE fan of Iz. I love everything he sings but one song that comes to mind is Henehene Kou 'Aka. It's really lively and fun. I don't know the meaning behind Hawaiian songs but I know I like'em! ;)
