Sister Stamps Release #28- Meet Halia & Sandcastle

Wasssup Everyone!  Yes, yes, I know its been awhile since our last release.  Did you miss me?  I missed all of you!  In addition to this long hiatus, it is also our birthday!!  So to make up for the long absence and celebrate our birthday, we are releasing a ton of new images!  You can actually call it two releases in one.  But they all do have something in common... they are all local kine kids at the beach!  Since we have so many images to introduce, I'll be introducing them to you in groups.

I've told you before that I asked my sister to design some local style images and she came through with some awesome stuff! These images really take me back to the "hanabata days" (aka small kid time) when we used to go to the beach all day.  I remember whenever our family planned beach days, my mom would wake up early to make musubis and corned beef hash.  Yum! It's still some of my favorite food till today.  Then we would load up the car- you would think we were leaving for a week with the amount of stuff we packed.  I think we used to also pick up some okazu (other picnic food like tempura, chicken, etc.) to go along with our musubis and hash.

Then we would head to Ala Moana Beach Park, find a shady spot and make house for the next few hours.  We loved Ala Moana beach and I still have fond memories of those picnics till today.  I guess we are spoiled living in Hawaii, all of our beaches are beautiful and sometimes I take it for granted.

So the first of our images is Halia... she is named after my niece (actually my cousin's daughter) who lives in the mainland.  Whenever they come home to visit they practically live at the beach!  I hope they come to visit us again soon.

Confession time.. I actually made this card with the intention of using it for a swap.  Its supposed to be a tag with a beach theme, so I thought this would be perfect!  I'm not sure that I like it that much, so I'm thinking it might not be used for the swap.  I thought the sequins around the shaker tag was a good idea but not so sure now that its completed.

So I started off with a #8 sized tag that I cut from an old Tim Holtz die.  I cut one out of watercolor paper and the other out of kraft cardstock.  Then I stamped and colored up the sandcastle shown below.  This is also a new image from this release.  It is the perfect accompaniment to our sand images!  I also stamped the sentiment Enjoy Summer from an old PTI set.  Used my new Zig Clean Color real brush markers to color up these images.  Loving these new markers by the way!

Since it was a shaker tag, I added the foam tape around the edges of the watercolor paper and added in the sequins and glitter before closing it up with the top piece.  The top piece was the kraft cardstock that I cut a window out of and put some acetate to make the window.  Then it was time to decorate the top.  I first added some shells then added Halia.  Halia was also colored up using my new Zig markers.  I wanted a softer look than the normal copic coloring.  Doesn't she look like she's all ready to play!!!

So there you have it... the first two images from this release!  If you would like a chance to win Halia or the Sandcastle image, here's what you need to do:
1)  Leave a comment on THIS POST by  6/30/15 11:59pm HST; and
2)  Tell me about your favorite beach memory!  I already shared mine with you!

Please check out my video with this project share and don't forget to stop by tomorrow!!

  1. Hau`oli la Hanau Sister Stamps!! I love this new Halia stamp! I really hope I win it...I have so many ideas! =)

My favorite beach memory is from when I was elementary/intermediate school age. My parents moved us from Waipahu to the mainland when I was 8 and my brother, sister and I would fly home every summer to visit my grandparents. We used to have big family luaus at Pokai Bay (there are a lot of us!) and I loved boogie boarding with my cousins. I remember all the ono foods, the manapua trucks, the shave ice...everything you remember about being a kid in Hawaii. I also remember my Auntie french braiding my wet ocean hair with a plastic fork! Good fun all around, and I was always so sad when it was time to go back to the mainland.

  2. Another cute release! I love these beach images! I have some many favorite beach memories! Of course, they are all when I'm visiting Hawaii. That is the only thing I want to do when I am there.. go to the beach and snorkel. Some of my favorite beach/snorkel moments are when I watched 3 eagle rays circling around at Black Rock, watching a mom Monk seal and her tiny pup at Maha' ulepu Beach, and spotting a pod of dolphins from the Farrington Hwy and jumping into the water near Makua Beach trying to catch a glimpse of them. I am in total heaven when I'm in Hawaii. =)

  3. Back in the days, we slept on the sandy beach as the waves pounded on the es with the huge orange moon above us. We woke up with smiles and giggles as everyone's faces were covered with lipstick and toothpaste drawings. Kolohi fun times as we had the best of times!

    2. Halia and the sand castle is a great addition to Sister Stamps.

All my fond beach memories of the times that my family and I have been in Hawaii. We don't go to beaches on the Mainland much. A fond memory at the beach is when my family and I just finished having lunch at one of the shrimp trucks. We were stuffed and just wanted to relax. We stop by one of the beaches before doing some more sightseeing. My hubby and I just sat on the sand and relaxed while our kids played in the water and built sand castles. Just sitting on the sand and watching the waves and beautiful view was amazing. We did not do anymore sightseeing that day. We enjoyed our time at the beach so much that we decided to hang loose there until the sun set.

  4. I love these images so much. And about my favorite beach memory, I don't really have a favorite but I do love going diving and last September I got to go diving with a lot of my
Friends and family. That was so much fun and I had a great time. These new images will be perfect for local cards. And I especially like the ones that look like they are diving. Have a great day

  5. OMG Halia and the sand castle are so cute!!! And I like the sequins around the shaker card. It looks like when you look down in the water and the sun rays shine against the ocean floor. So pretty! Anyway I have a lot of great beach moments here on the mainland and in Hawaii but one of the ones that is close to my heart is going to Ala Moana Beach with my family and my Obaachan and Ojiichan. We'd sit on our tatami mats with the whole spread- onigiri, spam musubi, hard-boiled eggs, and all the other little side dishes. I would go to the water with my mom and big sister and my Aunty would always bring her badminton set. There was always lots of talking story and laughter. So much fun.

  6. Haila is super cute. My favorite beach memory was celebrating my best friend's 12th birthday at Santa Monica Beach. It was so awesome. We got there at 10 AM, and spent the whole day playing in the water and hanging out. It was super awesome, we didn't leave until 10 PM, because we were getting kicked off the beach.

  11. Oh she is just adorable! I think your tag turned out wonderful!! My favorite beach memories are from when I was in elementary school and us kids used to catch the bus to Venice beach (safer times back then) and we would spend the day there eating popsicles, Hot Dog on a Stick, and drink lemonade! We would swim swim swim all day and catch the bus home. We all got so brown and couldn't get enough.

  15. I love your summer creation, Jenny!
I love going to the beach with my family, especially from afternoon to around the time of sunset. It is gorgeous to be able to look for seashells, splash in the tidepools, then watch the sun set as we enjoy our evening meal. I also love snorkeling. I still remember how clear the water is around Hawaii, esp. compared with the beaches here in Southern California.

  16. Yeah! I have totally missed your posts and was about to go into Sister Stamps withdrawals if I didn't see new stamps soon. :)
I can't wait to get my hands on every one of these darling kiddos and have some fun stamping!
As for my favorite beach memory, I will never forget the day my high school senior class spent partying it up on Wapato Point just after graduation... good times! :)

  19. It's impossible to pinpoint just one favorite beach memory, so I'm going to say taking my kids to the beach when they were little and seeing the joy on their faces. Happy Birthday, Sister Stamps!

  20. Too darn cute Jenny!! I love this little keiki. She reminds me of all my little nieces, cousins, and friend's daughters. I think this looks great and anyone you swap it with would love it too!
My favorite beach memory was at my Grandma's family reunion. My mom and aunties packed up tons of food and drink and we went to Waikaloa to spend the day just playing! You name it we did it. There must have been 40 of us! Played beach volleyball (10 ppl on each side hahaha), riding on the water bikes, going on the catamaran (my cousin is the skipper there) and best of all swimming in the water and having a honu pop up right next to me. Best day ever!!
